Environmental Education

Our environmental education program began in 2002 thanks to a generous donation from the Whitley Award Foundation.  In 2003, we worked with 8 schools and more than 1200 local students participated in our project.  In 2006 we added a Natural History Museum of the Petèn to aid our educational programs.

We expanded our educational program in 2007 by building a community library and in 2008 we contructed the local high school and preschool.

In 2009 we started our most ambitios project to date, the School of Natural History, a three-year formal program designed to teach local teens about the environment, and give them a chance to have a formal education designed by university graduates from developed countries.  In 2010, we had the aid of teachers from Spain and Argentina to help design and implement our program.  Right now we need your help to raise funds for 2011 to fund 3 teaches for 2 semesters.

Volunteer responsibilities include organizing classes, organizing resources for classes, teaching, maintenance of museum and education center, and outreach programs.

Volunteers can also participate in English Teaching and adult literacy and education.
